Virginia Required Pre-Requisites & Co-Requisites

The Commonwealth of Virginia's Office of EMS prescribes a number of pre-requisites and co-requisites from all students seeking initial EMT certification. Emergency Training Solutions, LLC is unable to offer exceptions to these requirements.

Pre-requisites must be met prior to the start date of the program:

​

• The student must be 16 years of age or older

• The student must be able to perform physical tasks as outlined in the Virginia Office of EMS functional position description

• Must provide proof of a current flu vaccination

Virginia Office of EMS Policy TR-35 fully details the requirements for entry into an initial EMS certification program.

Co-requisites which must be completed by the 8th week of class:

​

• Obtain an AHA HeartCode BLS or Red Cross BLS certification. The certification may not expire prior to the end date of the course.

• Complete the following online modules: IS-5, IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, IS-800, AWR111, and AWR160.
