American Heart Association HeartCode BLS

The American Heart Association's HeartCode BLS is a hybrid learning program that is perfect for the busy professional who cannot attend a traditional CPR course. The online module features case-based scenarios with interactive videos and activities. It is followed by an in-person skills session taught by Emergency Training Solutions. This course includes the same material as the traditional classroom based course for adults, children and infants.

Overview

  • High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants

  • The AHA Chain of Survival, specifically the BLS components

  • Important early use of an AED

  • Effective ventilations using a barrier device

  • Importance of teams in multi-rescuer resuscitation and performance as an effective team member during multi-rescuer CPR

  • Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants

Completing the Course

Students must first purchase and complete the online component from the American Heart Association. Upon completion, you will receive a survey from AHA to complete and after doing so, will receive a certificate of completion (see sample) for the online module. This certificate must be printed and presented at your hands-on skill session.

The second component is a hands-on skill session led by one of our instructors where you will have an opportunity to practice compressions, breathing, AED use, and team dynamics. A hands-on examination must be completed to confirm your competency.

Successful students will demonstrate competence in the following:

  • Adult/Child 1-Rescuer CPR

  • Adult 2-Rescuer CPR and AED

  • Infant 1- and 2- Rescuer CPR & BVM Use

Certification cards are generally issued within 2 business days following the course. Students must complete the course survey for the hands-on session to access their card.
