Asynchronous learning
Students will read 4-5 chapters per week and complete corresponding assignments as prescribed in the course outline and schedule. Additional course readings and materials will be made available on Platinum Planner for students to access throughout the program. Quizzes and exams (except for the final) are taken online each week in advance of synchronous lab sessions. Students should expect to put in approximately 7-10 hours per week on readings and assignments for greatest success.
Synchronous learning
Students will convene weekly on Saturdays for a 2-hour lab synchronous lab session. Each lab will correspond to material being studied asynchronously and reinforce material presented in the book. Students will work through cases and scenarios to learn and demonstrate understanding of key concepts and patient care techniques. Labs capacity is capped to maintain a 1:6 instructor-to-student ratio.
Clinical rotations
Students will be required to complete clinical rotations with a healthcare agency with at least one rotation being completed with an EMS agency. Students must complete 10 hours and obtain 10 patient contacts throughout the program. ETS partners with the Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad and UVAHealth to offer this experience to students. Clinical observations allow students to connect learning outcomes to patient care in the field.
